I was a Foster Parent while owning Advanced Financial Designs , a fee-only financial planning and investment advisory firm.  After a tragic car accident, my meditation practice deepened while I was healing.

I had been practicing and studying Soto Zen with Jakusho Kwong Roshi, the dharma heir of Suzuki Roshi at Sonoma Mountain Zen Center. It was there that I took Refuge vows.  I have also studied the Lojong teachings and have taken Bodhisattva vows with Ani Pema Chodron. 

To help with medical expenses, I started writing and coaching. I wrote about my personal recovery on FromFern.com and I started a blog to help others save and invest at  WholeHeartedWay.com. I also published a magazine app called Mindful Money Magazine that is still available on the Apple App store, and in the Google Playstore. I was a speaker at a Trauma Symposium at Stanford University. 

Yoga, Pilates and QiGong exercises helped me recover from over 40 surgeries. Now that I have recovered and have settled in the Bay Area, I lead weekly meditation sessions, and facilitate groups in contemplations, and leadership training.
